When asked what my highlight is from this week, and probably from this whole experience, I say “people.” Within my personal and professional life, I am so uplifted by being surrounded by others who deeply and genuinely care about the future of our children and of teaching and learning in North Carolina, and beyond. As curriculum changes, trends in technology modify, and politics pervade education, our hope is in the people who keep children first. As I embark on a new school year, a big fellowship project, or even a struggle with my own children, I will always be comforted and encouraged by the time I spend with others who are fighting the good fight. I am excited that this was just the on-set of my Kenan Fellowship and that I have multiple opportunities to build these relationships over the coming time.
Let’s do this!
I figured you would say the dip in the river! But I have to say I agree with your answer 100%. It’s refreshing and comforting to know others are just where we are now with our fellowships. And we’re having a pretty fantastic time together so far!
Kelly, I agree that it was wonderful getting to know other people here this week. Since I stayed in Madison instead of the NCCAT dorms, I got to know a small number of people pretty well and I hope to get to know even more people in July.
I agree, Kelly! The relationships formed this week and the bonds that were made will only be strengthened over time as we collaborate and work to make school a great place to be for everyone.
Relationships are sooo important! I learned a lot about everyone this week and know we will all become even closer. Teaching is intense and most of us between family commitments and work don’t take the time to just hang out with other professionals…that is so important.
Kelly,
Beautifully said! I don’t feel like this is an easy time to be energized about teaching in our state. Despite the challenges that we are all facing right now, we applied for these fellowships anyway. Spending last week with the Kenan Fellows has filled me with so much hope. I’m thankful to have connected with other professionals like you!
