About Me

My name is Michael Wood and I am a Mathematics Teacher at Athens Drive High School. This will be my 9th year of teaching (8th at Athens Drive). I am 30 years old and live with my wife Abbey, a chemistry/AP Biology teacher at Athens, and my daughter Braelyn.

I am originally from St. Louis, MO and moved to North Carolina because my father was in the military. I went to high school at 71st High School in Fayetteville, graduating in the year 2000. I got a B.S. in computer science from UNC-Wilmington in 2004 and finished my math education degree at NC State in 2005.  I achieved National Board Certification in High School Mathematics in 2010.

My hobbies include biking and running.  This past year I ran two half-marathons and also biked the Great Allegheny Passage/C&O canal which spans from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington D.C. I also enjoy most sports, but my favorites are baseball, hockey, and football. I am a fan of all teams St. Louis including the Cardinals, Rams, and Blues.

This year, I am teaching AP Calculus AB, and Computer Science III/IV in the fall, and AP Calculus BC and AP Computer Science A in the spring.  I have coached wrestling and football in the past (I retired to spend more time with my family), and I continue to be a cooperating teacher for student teachers and a mentor to new teachers.
