As I sit and reflect on the time that I have spent so far with the other Kenan Fellows, it is difficult to pin down just one thing that I am hoping to gain from this experience. There is a desire to want to learn as much as I can from each of the fellows, my mentors, and other educators that I will encounter throughout the next 2 years. I am feeling extremely fortunate that I have been given the opportunity to work with educators who share a common passion for education. To be given the opportunity to work with 48 other teachers who are determined to bring STEM education into schools and show other educators the importance of making it engaging and relevant to the students. There is a very strong sense across all of the fellows that we can actually be agents of change for education. I can say at this point in my fellowship that I hope to gain the ability to continue to ignite educators passion to make learning relevant and engaging for ourselves and our students.
I know right now that I can expect the following things, 1)learn more than I thought was possible about Salmonella and biology, 2) participate in interesting science experiments, 3) take part in PD that will help to mold me as an educator, 4) Work collaboratively to create curriculum, 5) learn that it is okay to not know everything and be willing shift my paradigm.
I cannot wait to see what’s in store for me over the next 2 years…
