Eureka! Just had a moment-I was thinking of how Melody has me look up invoices every Wednesday. I need to have my students do some kind of being organized. When I 1st started teaching I would have them find 10 items, such as Q#1, Density lab, etc: staple it together, figure our their grade-turn it in. Then I moved to me checking their notebook for 12 dividers, etc…a very subjective way that I eventually made a rubric for. I need to put this back on them-teaching them to stay organized and the reason why-because you have to look for things in the work world, like Melody!! So, I am going to create a form for them to have to look up x,y,z and hold them accountable instead of myself! YEAH KF!!
Worked on presentations for new teachers that I will be conducting in early August with some other Fellows.
Met with Travis a programmer. He is Kevin’s oldest son, Jerry’s nephew, Jeremy’s cousin. He is on the road a lot and very busy, so it is hard to catch him. Travis starts in shop on PLC, then goes with it to site and has to return to site when something is wrong with program. He has been with Jerry for over 20 years. He has learned by doing things hands-on. He mentioned that a person’s mindset has a lot to do with programming. He enjoys mind/brain games such as Sudoku. He uses a LOT of math, reads many manuals, and uses references such as the Ugly’s electrical reference guide.
I made little papers of the questions I want the employees to be prepared with: 1) Who are you? 2) How long have you been with Jerry? Many of these guys have been with Jerry 20+ years, but the company named Mertek has only been in existence <5 years, so we want to portray them as experienced instead of experienced 3) What is your primary role currently at Mertek? many of these guys have worn ALL of the hats at one time, but as business has grown they have become masters of one thing-which I am sure Jerry will expand upon 4) Then you can show us anything you think would be beneficial either for marketing or showing high school students about manufacturing/robots/etc. This is where we can attach the camera on their heads and gets a hands-on view of what they do here at Mertek! I will give these out at Tuesday’s morning meeting to get them all prepared for shooting video asap!
