week 3 day 2: HML

Today started like a Monday…one of those days I just wanted to roll over and stay at home instead of getting out of bed at 5:30am!!! It’s SUMMERTIME-WHAT I am doing waking up at 5:30am to drive more than an hour to work during my SUMMER!! What was I thinking!! Whew…it was one of those morning 🙂

It’s Tuesday, we had our weekly meeting this morning. Melody brought fruit this time-mmmm, the guys really liked it too. Many got a plate and had a seat-more than ever before. I told Kevin (the shop manager, Jerry’s brother) it’s either they really like the fruit or they are realizing Henrietta and I aren’t going to bite anymore. I noticed I need to meet William and Danny, they are back from vaca. The LARGE-GIGANTIC machine at Pentair should be running by the end of the week-can’t wait to see that thing in action, the largest machine they have ever built. It uses cut twine and fiberglass to make these straw looking baskets that are then turned into pool pumps, hard to explain. The oven customer is coming over next week, Blair and Matt (panel builder and programmer) have been working like crazy on finishing this machine. Melody (office manager) gave out new Prescription info and asked if anyone wanted to place a hat or shirt order. Mertek pays half of cost, but we got ours free-shhhh! Jerry also go new 8G flash drives in for customers and gave us one too 🙂  We let them know Craig and Ammerias will be here Thursday for a site visit. I told them about my virtual tour video project, gave them the  4 question flyer and spoke to several after meeting. David (welder) and Justin (grandson & minion) told me they did NOT want to be on camera. Several others gave me their paper filled out, I suppose I should have told them to all give it back…Ill get it when we start filming….if ever-seems like an eternity waiting to film….

Met with Danny-he has been with Jerry for 4 years and like most of the guys here started as a machinist, did assembly, and some programming. He has been on the road a lot here lately, building machines on site for customers similar to a contractor. He has an AS degree from CCCC and wants to attend NC State to be a computer programmer. He has used a lot of initiative in learning what’s what and he wrote a program for a mill that he will show us on video…if i ever get to film….

Chuck showed me what he was working on, it’s a round machine that him and Wayne have been tinkering with off and on. A machine that has to be so precise, 0.0001 precise!!! The customer had a tight budget which made it even more difficult to give them what they wanted/needed. This machine is helping reve up the technology on our water meters!

Went to lunch with the girls. Jerry hired his friend’s daughter Hannah who is home from college to help Melody. Hannah is majoring in accounting and plays soccer at a D2 school up north somewhere. We went to a Japanese restaurant and I couldnt find anything I liked to eat except plain shrimp 🙁 Told ya…one of those days…

Blair is helping me download and begin to edit video footage of the paint room and Cody building a panal. We will speed it up so it doesn’t bore anyone to death! I have also been researching how to make youtube videos interactive….more to come on these things later 🙂

So it’s not just me? You had one of those days too. I am driving just over an hour also, so I’m up by 5:20 and on the way… but yesterday, I snoozed twice, I never snooze! I started the day out “running behind”, ughhh! I know my own fault, but it is summer, I really needed/wanted to sleep until 6, lol, is that too much to ask? Ok, enough whining! Once I finally made it in, barely on time – but not late, hallelujah, I ended up having a very productive day. Hope your week gets better!

lol, yes it finally did. Yesterday evening, I found the leak in my home after we got a water bill that was triple the usual amount and this morning I treated myself to Starbucks. Thanks for the confirmation that I am not alone 🙂
