Meet Team eMammal (eM)
Jordan, Mamatha, Stephanie (our Mentor), Denise and Me
My internship began as a lofty dream to become a Kenan Fellow. I hadn’t even heard of the program until I attended the NCCTM Conference this past fall, but once I learned about this amazing opportunity, I couldn’t resist the urge to apply in the hopes of becoming one of the chosen few!
As part of my externship, I will be creating lessons to take back to my classroom, school and county to share with my students and colleagues. I have been teaching 7th grade math at Valley Springs Middle School in Buncombe County since 2009. It is an amazing school filled with faculty and staff who are passionate about what they do and supported by a community who prioritizes education – I am truly blessed to teach in such a positive environment.
Ultimately, our eMammal team hopes to create a product that can be scaled across the state, and maybe even across the globe, to ignite the students’ desire to become citizen scientists and active supporters of wildlife and conservation efforts in their local neighborhoods and beyond.
