We arrived today among the mountains of Cullowhee, NC at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT) adjacent to the beautiful campus of Western Carolina University. The trip was about a 5 hour drive from Raleigh including a lunch break along the way. This is the first time we have gathered as a complete cohort of Kenan Fellows for 2015-2016 from across the state. One of our main goals this week is to study the use of technology in the classroom. Since my classroom is a computer lab, I believe this week will be very beneficial for both me and my students.
We spent the afternoon learning about our week long stay at NCCAT, insight into our Fellowship experience, and participated in many activities in getting to know one another. I am not the biggest fan of “icebreakers” but I came away with a handful that are very intriguing and were fun to experience. I plan on trying out each one in the coming school year in both my high school and college classrooms.
In no particular order, here are links to websites that explain icebreakers similar to the ones we experienced today:
Tomorrow should be interesting as we will be participating in “flexible” professional development in which we will have choices and are all expected to lead and participate in various sessions as part of “EdCamp” – Kenan Express. Truly looking forward to learning from some wonderful educational leaders.
