Today at NC State’s ASSIST Center I partnered with Justus McGee, a math teacher from Durham to create and present a cross-curricular lesson plan utilizing a Texas Instruments SimpleLink SensorTag. The primary goals for our plan included students using the SensorTag to monitor movement and body temperature during physical activity, compile related data, and analysis for the math component. Then for their marketing component students will create a promotional campaign choosing activities that fit their learning styles. Justus and I implemented 21st Century skills into the plan using technology, team collaboration, differentiation, globalization, communication and presentation skills. Creating such cross-curriculum plans is one of my primary learning goals during my Kenan experience.
We spent the morning collaborating as a team to create our plan and then after lunch we presented to our colleagues and enjoyed seeing their presentations as well. I sincerely enjoyed working with Justus and developed many creative ideas from all of the teams throughout the day. On a side note, Justus and I broke in the Assist ping pong table during lunch! What a fantastic way to get moving around and get the creative juices flowing. Wish I had room for such a table in my classroom!
