Friday morning, June 19, our Assist cohort had the privilege of being hosted by Dr. Mehmet Ozturk at NC State’s Nanofabrication Facility (NNF) in the university’s Larry K. Monteith Engineering Research Center. Dr. Ozturk began by delivering a lecture on semiconductors while sharing hands on examples and fielding questions.
After the discussion, we all suited up to tour the NNF’s clean room facility. I found our visit both fun and educational – especially on a personal level as my mother worked in a semiconductor facility for IBM when I was growing up, that Dr. Ozturk confirmed would have been very similar to the environment in which she would have worked in. I made certain to send her pictures of the facility at the conclusion of our tour. The entire cohort appeared to enjoy our time wearing clean suits and learning from Dr. Ozturk. After our tour at NNF the cohort headed over to Morrisville, NC to visit a couple of industry partners – Porticos and Device Solutions.
