My students completed their One Health wearable sensing device designs and were a part of a competition at our school in March.  The lessons I designed for Kenan were part of a mini project.  Students would learn about the One Health initiative and then experiment with the built in accelerometers in phones and iPads.  In my classroom, students took this background knowledge and applied it to the Arduino Uno circuit board and incorporating many sensors including accelerometers.

The lessons that I developed for Kenan were introductory lessons on how simple devices like accelerometers are built into many devices such as phones and iPads.  The lesson encouraged the students to play around with iPads and gather data from the built-in accelerometer.  The mini unit also gave the students research background on the One Health initiative.  I feel that these lessons can be adapted to fit any level of student in most grades.

I hope that my lesson contribution to Kenan will allow other teachers to make use of students bring-your-own devices in the science classroom.
