It’s starting to get real….

The school year is coming to a close and, as always, it’s time for reflection.  We’ve implemented a new text this year, Connected Mathematics Project 3, and my students and I have learned a lot together about collaborative, investigative learning.  As I think back over the year and prepare for our pacing guide work session, I can think of a lot of things that worked well..and a lot that didn’t.  This is one of the reasons that I know that teaching is an ART.  There are moments that are pure masterpieces, and then there are those times when you scrap the block of clay and begin again because you know there is a masterpiece to be made.  Fortunately, I believe the work we have done simply needs a bit of tweaking and next years’ students will be the better for it.  Isn’t that the great thing about endings…they lead to new beginnings.

Also, one bright, buzzing thought is the summer and year ahead of me as a Kenan Fellow.  It is exciting and terrifying at the same time.  I know that this time next year, I will again be reflecting, but in addition to closing out the 2015-16 school year, I will be reflecting on my year as a Kenan Fellow.  I can only imagine the experiences that lay ahead of me and my new colleagues!  Here’s to endings, and new beginnings!
