I can’t wait to get started on another exciting chapter in my career and continue on my path as a life long learner. I spend my days asking middle schoolers to be inquisitive and try new things when it comes to their learning – now I get this great opportunity to do the same things myself. As a kid who felt that many classroom labs lacked authenticity and connections, the idea of “citizen science” and student contribution to the larger body of scientific knowledge is really intriguing. I’m hoping the Students Discover: Shark Teeth Forensics project will help me bring authentic science experiences into my classroom and maybe spark the curiosity of a few new scientists. And, in addition to getting to meet new people, have new experiences, and do some real science, the Kenan Fellowship is getting me blogging. Having a blog to document and reflect on our learning will be a great addition to this amazing adventure. Please check in often to see what we are doing and learning.
Here we go!
I’m also looking forward to the blogs. I shy away from this type of activity, but will do my best to stay connected and reply to the blogs.
Thanks for the comment. I really have started a few blogs, but struggle to find the time and the content. I actually look forward to having prompts and deadlines for posts – maybe it will re-spark my own documented reflections after the major sections of the fellowship are completed. Once a Kenan Fellow, always a Kenan Fellow, right?
Welcome aboard, Nate. Look forward to meeting you soon and following your journey.
Me too. It seems this journey will take us all to amazing places!
Nate, I’m looking forward to following your blog. I am biased (unashamedly) in thinking that Students Discover are among the most exciting fellowships! Heaven knows we need more citizens interested in science. Susan Parry, Asst. Director Partnerships, KFP
Thanks for the comment! The whole idea and purpose of the Students Discover fellowships is amazing to me. I can’t wait to get started.
