I see the Kenan Fellowship as a step to move forward in many ways. First and foremost, I hope to gain science content knowledge from this experience. Participating in the Students Discover project will expose me to a number of new facts and skills. Some of this new information will be filling in gaps in my knowledge and some (much?) will help me understand entire fields of science I know little about. I am especially excited to build a relationship between my mentors, my school, and myself.
Second, through working with my team, I will get to collaborate on products that can bring the Kenan Fellowship experiences back to my classroom, my school, and my district. Our hope is to create a cross-curricular product that is transferable to other science content. We believe that this will make the lessons and units more accessible to teachers in other subjects and grade levels. I have begun to lead school and district PD over the last few years and the Kenan experience will give me confidence and purpose as I continue to grow in my leadership.
