One New Strategy I Implemented This Year
October 2nd, 2016 by Maria Eby
One new strategy I have put into place this year is to have students take turns facilitating the class. We are in the middle of a large project right now. If I need to teach a mini-lesson I do, then I turn the classroom over to a student. This student spends some time visiting each team and coaching them if/when needed. This student clears up and misunderstandings and asks higher level questions. This has been a huge success. The kids are all very eager to serve as a facilitator and take great joy in getting a chance to “strut their stuff”. Student ownership of our classroom is very strong, and they are showing a true commitment to keeping our classroom challenging, engaging and productive. The less they need me, the more successful we all feel.
