Hi! I am Monica Ruffin. I currently teach 6th grade math at Warsaw Middle in Duplin County. I have been teaching for 6 years with majority of my experience being in elementary grades. In my classroom I have always tried to connect the topics that I am teaching to the real world. My students always want to know “why am I learning this?” “when will I ever use this?”. Through my Kenan experience, I believe that I will be better equipped to bring that aspect of real world learning into my classroom. The goal of my internship with Dr. Jason Bourke in the Paleo lab is to use 3D imaging to help scientist focus on the effect of changing ecology on dinosaur evolution by looking at the shape of the dinosaur’s skull. More specifically, we are focusing on the change in the size of the dinosaurs nose!
