Investing in Thanks During COVID-19

April 3rd, 2020 was to be the fifth annual Leadership Day at my school. Leadership Day is a day to showcase the wonderful things that happen inside of our school everyday. Students apply to prepare and perform speeches, lead performances, and guide guests through our halls. On this day my students planned to demonstrate their mastery with their financial literacy skills, taught through my experiences with Fidelity . Clearly, that did not happen due to COVID-19. I am sad and disappointed, but I choose to be thankful.

Thankful for bi-weekly meetings with Fidelity Investments using video conferencing. Using and becoming familiar with video conferencing I was able to give live instruction to my students 48 hours after the governor closed North Carolina schools.

Thankful for Kenan Fellows Professional Development that introduced me to various technology tools to use with my students in the classroom. Once we began remote learning my students had already been exposed to these tools and felt confident to continue learning.

Thankful for Kenan Fellows colleagues for launching me into collaborating virtually throughout this school year. I was then able to collaborate and support my peers during this time.

Thankful for my time with Fidelity Investments, which inspired cross-curricular learning in my classroom. Integrating financial literacy with math and social studies concepts has prepared me for integrating online content. Integration allows me to maximize distance learning opportunities within time barriers associated with learning at home.

Thankful for my Kenan Fellows experience pushing me to be flexible, creative, and persevere through challenges.

Finally, I am thankful for the opportunity to share my experiences with Kenan Fellows and Fidelity Investments on this platform. I hope during this time to share more of my experiences with you.

In the meantime, I encourage you to be thankful and be safe.

I must say, as a lot as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt help but lose interest after a while. Its as if you had a wonderful grasp on the subject matter, but you forgot to include your readers. Perhaps you should think about this from far more than one angle. Or maybe you shouldnt generalise so considerably. Its better if you think about what others may have to say instead of just going for a gut reaction to the subject. Think about adjusting your own believed process and giving others who may read this the benefit of the doubt.
