I currently work at Lakewood Montessori Middle School, a public magnet school that is part of the Durham Public School system.  Half of my job there is to teach 9th and 10th grade math to 7th and 8th graders.  The other half of my job is to coordinate the Academically/Intellectually Gifted (AIG) program throughout the school.  I have been teaching for 6 years in Durham Public Schools, and while the first 4 years of my career were in a high school, I have since learned that teaching middle school-aged kids is my passion. I am a self-proclaimed math nerd, and I love getting to show kids how much fun and how important math is.

I completed my M.Ed. in Gifted Education at Elon University in 2012 after receiving my B.A. in Mathematics from the same institution in 2008.  While at Elon as both an undergraduate and a graduate student, I had the opportunity to study in London, Guatemala, and Costa Rica, with a focus on the educational systems in those countries.  In the summer of 2013, I went with a group of 35 NC public educators to India to again study educational systems as well as develop cultural understanding and global awareness.  While this type of educational travel is something I hope to continue, I am looking forward to engaging here at home this summer to better myself professionally!

I currently enjoy living in Durham with my fiance, our two dogs, and our cat.  In my free time I enjoy cycling, gardening, and yoga.  I also love exploring the local food/brewery scene in NC.
