I am part of twelve Kenan Fellows working on the Students Discover Team  at the NC Science Museum in Raleigh.  There are four Students Discover Projects taking place at the museum with three Kenan Fellows on each team.  My team is working in the Genomics and Microbiology Lab with Dr. Julia Stevens.  Our project focuses on the microbiomes of dandelions.  We will study this by collecting the soil we find around the dandelion roots,  extracting and sequencing the DNA and determining which bacteria and fungi are present.  We have nicknamed ourselves TEAM DIRT.
