Hello world! It’s me, Ms. Couch!

First Blog Post: What do you hope to gain from your fellowship experience?

Being an NC teacher has been difficult. Sometimes it can feel like the world is against me. My most significant goal for the Kenan Fellowship is to have my passion as an educator reignited! By connecting with other educators who still love what they do and seek to better their practices and expand their knowledge of the workings of the world in an effort to better serve their students and by allowing myself to be treated as a professional, with dignity and respect, I hope to rejuvenate the power source that drives me to do all I can with whatever I have to make learning authentic and relevant for my students every day.

In addition to keeping me in the classroom, I expect this Fellowship to propel me not only as a teacher, but as a teacher-leader. I will learn so much to take back to my school and community, and I will create networks that can assist me in developing curriculum and in designing community outreach events. Knowledge is power, and the Kenan Fellowship and connected externship with Coastal Federal Credit Union is going to fill me to the brim with both.

I’m ready for a summer and school year of growth and development. Bring it on!
