New Learnings

The school year is up and running.  I have spent the last few weeks getting my classroom ready for students.  It is always important for me to make the room look exciting, bright, cheerful and safe. I want my new students to be excited by the learning environment they are about to enter.  This year my theme is Underwood Laboratories. I have included some photos of the classroom below.

I want my classroom to represent the idea of safety first.  Our friends and family board is a safety net, because our friends and family provide us with a safe place to fall.  Kids will bring family pictures to put on the board so they can look at their families anytime of day to remind them that they are safe to learn.  As the kids entered the room, they found a yellow safety helmet on their desk which will help us protect our brains when we are working hard.  The engineering process is displayed prominently on the back wall. Using the engineering process to create a classroom this year has been fun. The process includes the following steps: ask, imagine, plan, create, and improve. The kids have had so much fun this first week: wearing their construction helmets and working collaboratively to create rules for the classroom.  As we begin our journey together this year, my new students are eager to start some STEM design challenges and working to solve problems as a team.

I have already shared some of my stories from Underwriter Laboratories., Including how often I saw people working there working as a team to test various items.
