I TEACH!!
I teach at Hugh M. Cummings in Burlington, NC where I teach Biology and Chemistry. I have been “teaching” for over 8 years. I began my journey in Guilford County at Dudley, Smith and Northern High School. I then worked at “Wachovia” now known as Wells Fargo for four years as a Sr. Instructional Designer where I trained (taught), analyzed, designed, and implemented training modules. In 2010, I began my journey with Alamance-Burlington School teaching at Graham Middle School (for 1/2 semester) then Hugh M. Cummings High School.
Teaching was not my first choice. I was raised by teachers, three generations of teachers to be exact. That means words like behavior modification, performance improvement plans, and various evaluation matrix were not only words but a way of LIFE. Standard and objectives were the themes that my family used to raise me. So, I DID NOT WANT TO A TEACHER. This career path CHOOSE ME and I could not longer run under every desk job to avoid my calling. My goal is to CHANGE a student(s) life ONE step at a time (kinda cheesy). Students remember their BEST teachers and their WORST. I want to hold the title of their BEST and provide positive life long memories. This is the reason why I strive for perfection.
Unlike many, I tried to be a Kenan Fellow for FOUR years!!! Yes FOUR years. I noticed the best educators and administrator were Kenan Fellows so I went on the quest to apply. I received various stumbling blocks that prevented me from my January deadline including: car accident, broken ankle, school deadlines, and family drama. I was so happy to press SEND in January 2015. Kenan Fellows has a reputation of greatness and I wanted to experience the truth behind the stories. I hope my internship provides me with a depth of knowledge, an individualized plan, and hand-on projects and/or relationships I can give my school.
