The End…and the Beginning

1 Comment on The End…and the Beginning

This past Wednesday marked the end of my summer commitments to the Kenan Fellows Program. This is a bit surreal but I am definitely ready to feel like it’s actually Summer Break 🙂 However, this has been the most amazing non-break that I have ever been a part of. Working with my mentors was an experience that I will always value. I have created relationships with other teachers in my cohort (and past cohorts) as well as the scientists from the Genomics Lab at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences. I was also able to visit the other labs within the museum and hear from those scientists and postdocs as well.

My biggest take a way from this process is the fact that I have so many resources and opportunities to take back to my staff at the end of August. I hope that I show so much passion about the things that I experienced and have the opportunity to share my project and other Students Discover/Citizen Science projects and even those from some of the other groups of fellows. The fact that there will be access to so many different and innovative projects that our students may find interesting, is an awesome thing! I would love to share as much as I can so that we can have many things going on, school wide! Hopefully, this can be the beginning of a school-wide shift that many teachers will be open to.

    Taylor,
I am sure you deserve some summer break time. Enjoy! I can remember from my own teaching days how important it is to give your brain a rest and experience some non-academic activities for a while. Oddly enough, it was often in those times when I pulled away that I had some of my greatest insights and most creative ideas for integrating the new experiences into my classroom/school..
