Has your knowledge of career opportunities changed as a result of your internship experience? Please explain.
When I first started teaching Project Lead the Way biomedical science courses, I had no idea how many career possibilities I had no idea about. I had a similar experience with my internship.
I started my internship with a very basic understanding about both stem cells and the academic research world. Through my experience and my research while working on my final product, I’ve gained a whole new perspective on the opportunities my students have for their future. I have a better understanding of what a wide variety of different careers entail and I now feel more comfortable suggesting possibly career paths based on their interests. I also have a wider range of professionals I can contact to visit my students, and I’m looking forward to bringing in engaging speakers to help connect what my students are learning to the real world!
