Describe the highlight of your week at the KFP Summer Institute.
The highlight of my week was simply being surrounded by enthusiastic, passionate, positive educators. Though we’re all a bit soggy, I think we’re all leaving this experience with as much or more than we put into it.
How do you plan to implement something you learned at the institute in your classroom?
The tools, tips, and techniques I’ve learned this week at the Kenan Fellows Program Summer Institute are plentiful, and I am so excited to implement some of them in my classroom. I am particularly interested in trying a few of the sites and apps that Eric Rowles and my fellow Kenan Fellows shared, like DJ Earworm, Powtoon, and goformative. I also plan on connecting with parents via Twitter and/or Instagram this coming school year; my hope is to use one of these platforms to better showcase what is going on in my classroom on a daily basis. My kids are awesome and they’re doing awesome things – the community should know that! In a time when students are connected to technology every hour of every day, I hope these tools will help me provide relevant instruction for my classes.
How has the week compared with other PD opportunities you have attended?
Quite simply, this week was phenomenal. As far as teaching techniques, networking and support, and professional growth, it was the best opportunity I’ve attended. I am coming away from this invigorated and eager to experience my fellowship, develop a quality product, and grow overall as an educator.
