Despite the all too rare appearance of blue sky, this amazing place is the location of some of the best professional development that I have ever participated in. Inbetween whitewater rafting and great food the Kenan Fellows staff has managed to provide teachers from across the state with the shot of energy that we need to start our fellowship.
So, why is it the some of the best PD ever? I have to admit that it is hard for me to pick one highlight of the week. One of the great things about the week was the “choose your own adventure” aspect of the professional development. This included the EdCamp and the PBL sessions. I have to also include the whitewater rafting trip. It was a perfect blend of excitement, team building, ecology, botany, and geology. It fueled my inner science geek and added some interesting tidbits of information to topics that I cover in my classes.
Project-Based Learning is something that has interested me for a while and I have been looking at doing in my classroom for over a year. Using what I have at the summer institute, I look forward to going back to school and incorporating it into my classroom.
