Under the guidance of my mentor, Barbara Bissell (former chief of the math department at DPI), my fellow fellows and I will be creating a professional development video series to accompany Kathy Richardson’s Assessing Math Concepts for North Carolina’s K-2 teachers.  This system of assessment will help teachers to lay a stronger foundation of number sense and mathematical reasoning for elementary children by pinpointing children’s gaps in understanding and providing resources for bridging these gaps.
