The Guide on the Side

“I never teach my pupils, I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.” -Albert Einstein

At the end of the day, my one desire is that somehow the work I have done this summer will help teachers and students. Though I am no longer in the classroom, I consider it my mission in my position to provide opportunities for growth and empowerment to teachers. In turn I hope that those teachers share their new found knowledge with their students. During this fellowship, I have had the opportunity to help build the web-based resource library for our state using the NC Summary rubric to ensure that resources and lessons placed into Home Base were aligned with content standards and provided opportunity for deeper learning for the students of North Carolina. I honestly feel as though the Home Base system will help teachers save time and allow them to collaborate more meaningfully with one another and their students. I also believe that the work I will do on using quality rubrics to identify high quality resources over the coming months will help teachers gain a greater understanding of their standards and what they must teach in order to help students meet the standards. So, though I will not go back to a classroom full of fresh, bright, young, curious faces, I do hope that the teachers that use the Home Base instructional system or that attend one of the trainings I will be doing in the upcoming months will use my fellowship work to help create wonderful and meaningful learning conditions for students across the state.

Wonderfully, written. I especially love this, “… I consider it my mission in my position to provide opportunities for growth and empowerment to teachers. In turn I hope that those teachers share their new found knowledge with their students.”

You hit the nail on the head. It’s part of our mission to build teachers who lead for this purpose and you are already there. So great to see.
