Chicken Without a Roost

The biggest challenges are the ones you don’t see.

I am a resource teacher. I don’t have a class of my own. Instead, I co-teach or pull flexible groups based on demonstrated need.

This arrangement has been the bulk of my schedule over the past six years. However, up until this year, I had a once-a-week time carved out where I was able to pull all of the identified AIG fourth and fifth grade students together for 75 minutes. My plan had been to teach the Kenan unit during that time.

That changed this year. I have arranged three times to take over a colleague’s class in order to teach the series of lessons. Three times, those plans have been thwarted.

I want to teach the unit; I need to find kids.
