Throughout the summer I spent a lot of time researching and making connections that would help me to make sense of my summer externship. I did not believe during the first couple of weeks that I would ever be able to make connections needed in order to take my learning back to my students. So throughout the summer I continued to ask myself how in the world I could step outside of my comfort zone and learn everything I possibly could about microbiology and immunology. After spending A LOT of time researching by myself and with the other fellows I finally started to see where we would be able to make connections that would provide our students with really exciting learning experiences. It took a lot of time thinking creatively and working with others in order to get to a point where I felt as though I had finally come up with lessons and projects that would encourage my students to get excited about microbiology. So hopefully everything that I learned and worked hard to create will impact my students’ lives and help them to see the importance of science and especially microbiology.
This was a nice read. Love the graphic too. What an awesome visual representation of what all Kenan Fellows experience when they are pulled out of the classroom and into a work setting so different from their own.
