Are you my teacher?

I’m Allison Stewart, I’m a UNC alum,  I teach brilliant little young people, and here I am embarking on a grand adventure with this Kenan Fellows Project.

Reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to one of my classes — one of my favorite moments!

I’m closing the chapter of my second year teaching, and I’ve learned more in the last two years than I have in what seems to be my whole life. Currently, I teach at a Spanish dual language magnet school in Chapel Hill, NC where I specifically teach inquisitive third graders reading in English. We follow a Biliteracy Unit Framework for our curriculum units, and we implement Project Based Learning in both English and Spanish in third grade through writing, science, and social studies content areas. Despite my title as a reading/literacy teacher, science holds my heart and there are few things I enjoy more than crafting an engaging science lesson. I believe integration is (one of) the way(s) to making content accessible to every child, and I believe that every child can learn. My Kenan Fellowship Project experience will give me the invaluable opportunity to learn, create, and implement a unique science curriculum.

There is nothing I am more passionate about than creating lifelong learners, and I am confident the Kenan Fellowship will assist me in my quest for cultivating a love of learning in the lives of my students.
