Social Media – to embrace or ban

I use social media daily, I can understand and appreciate its dangers as well as its benefits. As educators we have to except that change is inevitable. Our classrooms must evolve with the times, therefore banning social media is a futile waste of our most limited resource… Time! In my opinion, we need to embrace this change and use it to expand our students learning experience. I view social media as a positive tool in my class, that is – once my students have been properly informed and boundaries have been established. We have rigorous training, through out the year, on topics such as Cyber Bullying, Online Predators, Nettiquete, and various other Internet safety issues. My students respond really well, and enjoy using social media.

The way I see it is, we can fight the inevitable or learn to use it as a tool.
