Week 3 – About My Fellowsip

This summer, I am spending time at the Advanced Self-Powered Systems of Integrated Sensors and Technologies (ASSIST) Center at NC State University. This is a unique opportunity to study how sensors play a role in monitoring the health of both humans and animals. In addition to health monitoring, we also learn how sensors can be used to monitor the surrounding environment and how that impacts health as well. It is also taught how these health sensors can monitor a range of health factors including (but not limited to) glucose levels, cardio information, respiratory information, and hydration levels.

The tools that we cover are the TI Sensor Tag, the LilyPad Arduino, in addition to energy harvesting technologies. Not only are we covering physical tools to utilize but also organization tools such as brainstorming methods, Think-Pair-Shares, Mind Mapping software, and other project organizational tools.

This week we have focused of the ideation phase of our project development. We have learned about what the One Health Initiative is and how we are going to use this initiative and One Health Challenge to develop lessons for fellow teachers to use when either teaching their students about wearable devices with sensors or preparing their students for developing a product for the One Health Competition.
