Working with Kenan Fellows has opened my eyes to how much an integral part each discipline is regardless of the common stereotypes. I loved the opportunity to show my students that even though we were working primarily with mathematics, that all of the disciplines could contribute and are actually needed. I think this is one of the main things the Kenan Fellowship helps teachers convey to their students. STEM has made remarkable strides regarding science and technology in particular, but it was really rewarding to see past STEM and work into the transition into STEAM. Seeing other fellows in the program work in areas they weren’t exactly comfortable in and actually integrate more of those connections in their classrooms was probably the biggest takeaway from working with and around my peers.
