Professional development can always seem like a drag or complete obligation instead of a choice that we as teachers can make to further develop our craft. The Kenan Fellowship did a great job allowing teachers to pick and choose their professional development based on their specific interests and needs. I really enjoyed being able to develop my own learning plan based on what would be best for me personally as well as my specific students and courses. I can also say that it was great to see the other fellows take pride and ownership in being able to develop their own learning plan and implementing it. Often times teachers, including myself, don’t gain as much knowledge, skills, or applications from professional development when they aren’t given the ability to choose and usually view it as a punishment or even worse boring torture.
