NSF FREEDOM Systems Center

From an Introduction to Electric Grid and Smart grid to Funduino Testing and Modifications, we explored EV car building and solar charging, designing, and testing with Adam Stevens and Erik Schettig.

Trip to S.A.S.

We got to see sustainable development in action as we toured SAS. From the platinum LEAD building certification to the solar field generating energy back to the grid, this was an inspiring tour. The landscaping crew, a flock of sheep, were taking a break from their responsibilities as grass trimmers lounging in the shade.

Caring for the water

Even the stormwater is  utilized and runoff minimized with roof retention and green rooftops. The grey water collected is filtered and used in the toilets.

Back to RET

We explored the microgrid with Landon Mackey. Great resources to be shared!

We then explored photovoltaic solar energy with Catie McEntee and designed rooftop solar arrays.  Catie has been particularly helpful in exploring the solar charger design project.

From there it was on to wind power with the middle school students as we all tested our turbine blade designs.
