Connecting Internship to Classroom

This internship relates to my classroom curriculum in a number of different ways, particularly with the act of conservation. In the 8th grade science curriculum, one of the key concepts for students is knowledge of conservation and conservational practices. This is something that is fairly easy for the students to understand, but the curriculum doesn’t call for specific conservational methods/practices used in Duplin County.

This is what I hope for my unit plan to help students understand. I want them to become at least an expert in at least one major conservational practice used by the USDA in Duplin County (and inherently everywhere in the world). There are numerous types of conservational practices that students have never heard of (trust me, there’s so many that I didn’t even know existed!).

For my internship connection with my curriculum, I am choosing the following standards to address with my unit plan:

8.P.2 Explain the environmental implications associated with the various methods of obtaining, managing and using energy resources.

  • P.2.1 Explain the environmental consequences of the various methods of obtaining, transforming, and distributing energy.
  • 8.P.2.2 Explain the implications of the depletion of renewable and nonrenewable energy resources and the importance of conservation.
