About My Fellowship

Hi friends!

My name is Samantha Haislip and I am thrilled to be an NC State Kenan Fellow for the 2016-2017 school year!

This year will be my third year teaching math at Greene County Middle School in my home town of Snow Hill, NC.  I attended Appalachian State University where I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Middle Grades Education, concentrations in Mathematics and Social Studies.  This Fall I will begin an online program at ASU for a Masters of Arts: Curriculum Specialist.  I love teaching math and I’m excited to dig even deeper into the curriculum!

I wanted to be a Kenan Fellow because I knew that it would open many other doors for me.  I’m excited about working at Hyster-Yale in Greenville for my 3-week internship this summer.  Through my internship I hope that I will be able to constantly bring back materials, ideas, and activities to incorporate into my classroom so that my students benefit from my experience as well!  I am also looking forward to working with my cohort of teachers from Greene County so that we can collaborate and focus on vertical alignment within the county for our math standards.  We are hoping to focus on number sense, operations with fractions, and graphing using the coordinate grid.

I’m so excited for this school year!  I cannot wait to see where the Kenan Fellows program takes me!
