Transferring my internship experience into educational resources

I am currently in the process of trying to transfer my internship experience into educational resources for myself and others. One of the great successes that I have experienced so far has been my ability to recreate GoogleFiber’s “Create Your World” project on my own. I have been working to create instruments using fruit and makey makey’s, as well as create scenes of stories using stop motion animation. I have been able to successfully model how this program is created from setup to breakdown. I am eager to recreate this experience in my own classroom. One of the challenges that I continue to face is creating a MEANINGFUL lesson plan that fits the ready made project. GoogleFiber has expressed interest in keeping the elements of project as they are. Creating a lesson plan to fit sounds easy, but really creating one that is useful and meaningful in real life for a 3rd grader has been a bit of an obstacle. I will continue to work with other Kenan Fellows to develop something that is easily replicated by those with and with out teaching experience, who wish to use this project on their own.

KFP Summer Institute

Wow!!! What an experience! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at KFP Institute! A week of meeting new friends and learning new things that are relevant to me and that REALLY work. It was nice to work alongside others who have a similar passion for truly making a difference in the lives of their students. I was able to meet others who really take their careers to heart and strive to give their students the very best that they have. These same people also thought it not robbery to share their knowledge and experiences to help teachers searching for their own specific needs.

My plan going forward is to take my brand that I created for myself and to live by each and every word. I created a brand that was meaningful to myself…CONSIDERATE, FUN, LOVING, FACILITATOR…I want to live these words and show others without speaking it.

Compared to other professional development I have attended, this week has been phenomenal! Our sessions were engaging and fun. I was able to choose sessions that were tailored to my personal needs, instead of meaningless lectures. I have so much information that I am eager to take back to my school and use in my classroom. I have learned of so many new tools that will make some things much easier for me and more exciting. This has truly been a great experience. I feel lucky to have had the opportunity.

Hello world!

My name is Amelia Robinson and I am a 2017-2018 Kenan Fellow recipient. Over the next year I will be working with Google Fiber to learn as much as I can about the field of technology. I look forward to gaining first hand experience in the technology field and learn new ways I can incorporate technology into my classroom. My goal is to gain a clear understanding of the roles of employees and focus on how their jobs can tie into my 3rd grade curriculum. I hope to explore how I can use my connections to bring Google into my classroom beyond being just a search engine. One of my personal goals during my fellowship is to work of my level 1 and 2 Google Classroom certifications.
