Challenges and Successes of Implementing my Internship Product

Product: CMS Stem Career Fair

Purpose: Expose Charlotte students and families to a plethora of local and lucrative (starting at $36,000 up to six figures) Stem apprenticeships that create a pipeline of future talent with NO college debt.

Successes:

  • Siemens has offered to be a part of our Stem Career Fair
  • Gathered a preliminary list of companies that offer apprenticeships & contact information: Siemens, SSI Schafter, and Bosch
  • Location identified: Renaissance West Steam Academy

Challenges:

  • No idea how to create a Community Engagement Toolkit, (a template perhaps)
  • Have not identified a date
  • Need help identifying which companies offer apprenticeships
  • Need help identifying what type of information should be included in an invitation letter to apprenticeship companies
  • Need help identifying what type of information should be included in an invitation letter for prospective vendors
  • Not sure about the process/procedure of creating a district career fair: Does CMS have to approve it?
  • Not sure how to get the word out to all CMS schools
