Ms. Sommerfelds Kenan Experience

KFP

The reason I did not complete this blog at NCCAT is because I really wanted to use my drive home, all 5 hours, and really reflect on my time at the KFP Summer Institute.

After my time in Cullowhee, I can honestly say that I feel like doing this fellowship is going to be the best thing I have ever done in my professional career. Maybe it was the energy of the room….Maybe it was was the Kenan staff…Maybe it was the fact that I pushed myself out of my comfort zone all week and still succeeded…..Whatever it was about KFP Summer Institute, I KNOW that I can do this fellowship, and do it well. The main things I gained from my 5 days with my 2021-22 Cohort were support and confidence. I am not sure if that is what I was supposed to walk away with, but that is where I am.

One of my favorite things we did was the rotational PDs on Tuesday! I loved the variety that we got and I appreciate the fact that we could jump around. I learned a lot from the technology PD and I was able to write down 15 different sources of tech that I can bring back to my classroom. I know I will be asking for a gimbal for my program and I can think of multiple ways in which I can use Quiver Vision. I am also excited to use ClassCraft and Blooket! Honestly, every PD brought something for me to bring back, not only to my classroom, but to my school and community as well.

As far as this week comparing to any other form of PD that I have had as a teacher in 6 years, I can honestly say that there is no comparison.  I have never been to a PD that isn’t a “sit and get” and that includes PDs that are directly related to my curriculum and my national organization. Everything that I learned this week can be applied SOMEWHERE within my classroom, school and community, and I am so excited to be able to take that with me and make my learning environment better and more fun!

I am the Nurturing Cultivator of Adventures, and I am ready to get started on this amazing journey!
