I am Maggie McKinley, a 7th grade science teacher at Burgaw Middle School in lovely Pender County. I am beginning my journey as a Kenan Fellow and am dipping my toes into the world of blogging.
For those of you who are brave enough to continue to read through my blog, this will be an experience for us all.
I am not Carolina born and raised, but I have been here since I was 6 months old so North Carolina is definitely my home. This state is the most beautiful state in the United States and that is a fact, I’m not biased at all! Despite our issues with public education (that is a blog for another day), I couldn’t picture living anywhere else.
I majored in Biology at Campbell University and received my MAT in Biological Science from Miami University. My master’s allowed me to travel to Baja, Australia and Borneo all of which were amazing places. It is through this travel that I have already fulfilled several items on my bucket list; swimming with sharks being one of the most exciting. I am halfway done with fulfilling my biggest goal: to travel to all 7 continents. Perhaps my first cruise will be to Antarctica!
I will be working as a Kenan Fellow with the Students Discover group on the Ants project. I am excited to get to know my fellows better and to be working with real scientists on developing a curriculum I can bring back to my classroom.
So sit back, grab a cup of coffee (or tea if you’re one of those people 😛 ) and enjoy the ride that will be my journey as a Kenan Fellow, #kenanfellow.
