How do you see your internship experience benefiting your mentor’s organization?
The time for my internship with the ASSIST program seems to be flying by! Thinking about today’s prompt, I feel that I am benefiting my mentor’s outreach program by contributing lesson plans to the ASSIST One Health website. I am creating a lesson plan that focuses on the a physics problem related to balance. The fear of falling is a One Health problem among people with mobility issues. Our team designed a prototype balance sensing shirt that can signal when a person is tilting over their balance point. In another lesson I will teach about using block diagramming in the engineering design process. My demonstration for the ASSIST fellowship includes a motion powered jump rope and an explanation about how dynamos can make an object self-powered. There is a tie-in to the research at ASSIST, also.
