Eyes Wide Open

My eyes are wide open.  My conversations with peers include more conversations about how we can change the overall state of education.  I always knew the importance of collaboration but I have learned how to improve this process through my Kenan Fellowship. I collaborate with peers as often as I can and talk about ways we can improve educational policy. I also have an increased interest in educational policy. In February, I will be in attendance at the Magnet Schools of America conference in Washington, DC. I will be on Capitol Hill hearing from politicians who influence educational policy in North Carolina.  I have requested meetings with our NC educational political leaders.

My philosophy of education has been confirmed that students learn best through real-life, hands-on experiences.  I have continued to improve upon these quality experiences for my students. My Kenan Fellowship has provided me with additional knowledge of where these places are located and who to contact within these organizations. In addition, I have learned how to seek funding to make sure all students can benefit from these authentic experiences.
