This past Wednesday I had the opportunity to meet my mentor Dr. Alex Nevzorov, be introduced to his colleagues, and listen to the pHD defense of one of them.  Ms. Deanna Tesch (now Dr. Tesch) presented on using free radicals and differing membrane mimetics as a means to enhance the sensitivity of NMR readings*.  It was very cool to see an actual pHD defense as I’ve never been to one before.  It seemed very intimidating but Dr. Tesch handled it like a pro; I was impressed with her research.  It also gave me a better understanding of what I’ll be working on this summer.

However, I won’t be starting officially in the lab officially until July 5th.  For now, I’m excited to head to NCCAT on Monday and learn more about what this fellowship entails!

*That’s my best summation of her results but I could be oversimplifying!
