My internship experience will benefit the Advanced Self-Powered Systems of Integrated Sensors and Technologies (ASSIST) Center in at least two specific ways. An immediate but intangible benefit is the contribution I bring to the work of the entire group. My openness, active listening, engagement in all activities and enthusiasm might serve as a model for others in the program. The same type of participation by others in the program has made a big difference to me.
The second benefit I bring to the ASSIST Center is much more concrete and measurable. The ASSIST Center focuses on developing wearable technology that monitors various aspects of the wearer’s health. Creating such devices requires creativity and a clear understanding of the goals of the process. Part of my experience will include teaching my students how to create these devices and challenging them to tap into their creativity to design a device unique to the wearables market. My students are creative, very creative, and they have a secret weapon.
At Vernon Malone College and Career Academy students prepare themselves for real world challenges. Many students study nursing. Just as many study simulations and gaming. They have backgrounds in health sciences and programming. This prior knowledge is their secret weapon because it has prepared them to solve challenges outside of a school environment. Teaming these students together and asking them to create a solution to a world health problem will certainly result in a new product idea worthy of pursuit by the ASSIST Center.
Silver Hawks will rise to the occasion!
