Investing in teachers. Empowering students. Accelerating communities.
At the Kenan Fellows Program for Teacher Leadership, we believe K-12 educators are vital pillars of North Carolina’s communities and our economy. It’s our mission to equip educators with the knowledge and networks to shape successful outcomes for students, both in today’s classrooms and in tomorrow’s workplaces.
We don’t just envision a future where K-12 educators are trusted and celebrated partners in addressing our state’s workforce needs — we’re building that future. Through a combination of world-class leadership development and immersive industry experiences, we invest in teachers to empower their students and accelerate North Carolina.
“The experience reminded me of why I got into education and why I love what I do. It helped me remember my passion for career exploration for my students.”
Jennifer Taylor, Polk County Schools

Our Approach
Industry Immersion
The future of work is here and it is all about giving professionals the durable skills to step boldly into new roles and evolve along with a fast-changing workforce. Our model pairs educators with hosts from local industries and educational institutions for immersive internships that offer firsthand insights into the career pathways available to students.
Our industry immersion is reinforced through our leadership development institutes, which guide educators in translating their experiences into knowledge and resources they can bring back to their schools and communities.
Leadership Development
We put educators into dynamic learning environments, led by fellow teachers who understand their needs and respect their perspectives, for an interactive experience that enables participants to grow their expertise while enhancing our programming and educational networks. It’s no wonder that educators consistently rate our leadership development as one of the most rewarding experiences of their careers.
Beyond our fellowships, we leverage our networks and know-how to provide special programming to help educators maximize their teaching toolkits. Learn more about each program STEMwork, Mountains to Sea and Not Your Average PD.
