Hmmmmm, What do I hope to gain from my experience as a fellow?

I am hoping to gain a holistic experience that will allow me to impact both teaching and learning of science that is integrated with technology that brings together “real world” science practices with NC essentials standards that are utilized in our diverse educational settings.  I am also hoping to expand on the following:

A.  Technology Enhanced Learning in Science

I hope to gain hand-on exposure and experience with many advanced technology resources that I can incorporate into my lessons which will assist in the engagement of all learners.

B. Collaborative Opportunities

I believe that this fellowship will allow me to build relationships that will expand beyond the classroom or these two years with individuals who desire to take science education to a whole new tier that will utilize both face to face and online collaboratives.

C.  Ignite An Increased Student Interest in Science

My goal is to always inspire other minorities and females to pursue careers in the sciences as well as education by letting my students experience science through web tools, field trips, and hands on experiences.

D.  Professional Development Opportunities

1. Plan a curriculum project 2.  Implement the project in the classroom with fidelity 3.Reflect on the instruction involved and student’s learning of science 4. Customize the project in light of these reflections.  5. With my team, perhaps the make changes to the curriculum project.  Additionally, throughout the program I hope to participate/present in multiple annual workshops and meetings, work with my team to help launch our projects, receive technical and classroom support as needed, and be given the opportunity to reflect on the instruction as well as the technology involved in both creation and implementation of my project.

E.  Creating Train the Trainer Exemplars

From my experience as a fellow, I would like to develop a professional development model for principals and teachers that allowed them to:1.  Become familiar with curricula2.  Discover the appropriate use of technology as a tool for learning, rather than  subject in itself .3. Discuss how technology can promote literacy in science. 4.  Help those teachers with non-science backgrounds become more comfortable with providing sound science educational experiences to their student while overcoming their fears.
