How to pick my favorite thing about NCCAT???  I can sum up my favorite things by saying that I simply enjoyed learning from fellow educators who are leaders in the field.

My top activities were probably…

  1. PD sessions from past Kenan fellows
  2. Whitewater rafting
  3. Edcamp
  4. Meyers Briggs testing

I am planning on bringing the edcamp model back to my school and promoting it for our next PD sessions if possible.  I also definitely plan on incorporating the literacy strategies and project management tools I learned from Michelle and Vance; those PD sessions were my favorite from the week. But really there are so many things I learned and want to use next school year it would be impossible to describe them all here!

I enjoyed all the sessions to some degree, but my least favorite was definitely the “Why Culture Matters”.  The presenter was engaging and knowledgeable, but I felt she missed the boat as far as making her presentation relevant to us.  I wish she would have went to the application side and described ways that culture is relevant in the classroom, either in the form of classroom management or in lesson building.  I struggle with incorporating cultural/global elements to science lessons so I would have liked for her to address that.

Overall, NCCAT has been the best PD I’ve attended in my career for a variety of reasons but most importantly because it was engaging, teacher-driven and relevant for the entire week.  Thank you!
