Students design and conduct at least four lab experiments that examine the effects of environmental conditions on the survival and growth of aquatic organisms. They use information gained in the first experiments to design and conduct follow up experiments. Students use the knowledge gained from their lab research to write a fictitious endangered species plan that will protect their organism from becoming extinct.

Standards:

1.01, 1.03, 1.04, 1.05, 1.06, 1.08, 3.03, 3.04, 3.05, 3.06, 3.07, 3.08, 4.09

Classroom Time Required:

Lab 1 & 2: seven 50 minute periods and four 20 minute periods; however we do this twice during the semester. Add an additional four to five 50 minute periods if you plan to create and present endangered species plans during class.
