Just one piece I am taking away

Data.  I strongly dislike this word.  It is collected at the school level, county level, state level, national level, world wide level, personal level, classroom level, teacher level (I think you get the drift), and you must use all  data to differentiate learning in your classroom.  Impossible!  Attending the Data Literacy session during the professional development really changed the way I look at  data.  I plan to be more deliberate in the types of classroom data I collect, varying the types of data I collect, and analyzing my tests.  Already I have collected student data.  I have learned  fun facts like, two of my students have bearded dragons as pets.  I have also learned that one of my students places such a high value on education because neither of their parents were educated, since education is costly in Mexico.  I have only been with these children for five days, and I feel I know so much about them!  (If you would like a copy of the student survey I used, let me know!).

Looking forward to watching how my new outlook on data will change the way I meet my students’ needs!

Wishing you all the best this school year.  Looking forward to seeing you in October!

Erin

I am planning to take the “Seize the Data” class in hopes that it will make me better able to incorporate those strategies into my classroom. Congrats on already getting started! I would love to see your survey, because I think the one I made is pretty lame—I think you have my work e-mail, but let me know if not.

Sounds great Erin! I also had my students complete a survey. I would love to see what your survey looks like. I was a little rushed while working on the one I used. Sounds like your off to a wonderful start. Have a GREAT school year!!!
